Slip Stitch

Now that you have the basic chain, you can use that as a base for your stitches. One of the basic stitches you should learn is the "slip stitch". This stitch is used mostly to join your crocheted pieces together in rounds or to reach a point in your work without having to cut the yarn and rejoining it on.

*Insert your hook in the last chain from the hook, put yarn over hook (this is abbreviated as yo), now draw a loop directly thru, passing hook in the chain you inserted the hook in and in the chain on hook:*

Reapeat this stitch acroos on all the chains of your starting chain. You now have a finished row.

The arrow in the pictures shows the direction of the hook to draw a loop through. On subsequent rows, you will work the stitch on other stitches, for example, you will have to insert your hook in the next stitch of the previous row, and repeat that are included between the astericks ( * and *) as shown above.

Please note that you must insert your hook under both the loops in the superior part of the stitch in the previous row. This is always going to be true, except when you want to do a particular pattern.
