"Hold Your Tongue"

"I have dedicated this story to my sister,
through someone's unguarded tongue has
been brought pain and humiliation."
Hold Your Tongue

Each time we speak there is
Always someone listening,
No matter where we may be,
Someone is there.
It may be in a crowded room,
Or in the privacy of our homes,
Be they friends or a stranger
Or maybe just you and family.
So when we speak we must first
Think of what we're saying,
For what we say outloud
Can never be taken away.
Words of praise and glory
Are welcomed everyday,
By all that listen or
Hear your words passed on.
But those little words we say
That may hurt those that hear,
Those are the ones that
That will never go away.
You may say "I'm Sorry"
And mean it with all your heart,
But the hurt has been done
And cannot be taken away.
So all I ask of you today
Is to just think before you speak,
For those you hurt today,
May not be here tomorrow to hear.
